Although the dog houses are advertised as weather proof, the dog houses buckle and fall apart and become weak after getting wet. We purchased TWO of these houses 3 months ago (on April 22) and BOTH of the houses are buckling and falling apart. Save your money and buy a better dog house that is actually waterproof!!!

So you kind get what you pay for right? I mean if money, or time, or skill were no object, you and I both would be hiring Ty Pennington to build us a palatial doggy-manor... But it is, and as much as I love my dog, she's a dog, she rolls in feces, she doesn't have high standards, and though I have sewed extra-large pockets into my dungarees in case I need to carry rolls and rolls of cash, I have kids, I'm lucky to have enough change at the end of the month to fill my gas tank, so I ain't spending more than I absolutely have to, for my hound. I'll give her an extra milk-bone, she'll be fine..

That being said, this badboy was cheap, not like balsa wood, worrying about my 60-lb lab doing a "Hey Kool-Aid" through the side of it, but cheap in that when my 10 year old leaned on the side of it, you could see the whole thing flex.

On a positive note, it came in a nice big box, there was one gouge, but nothing important was broken, there were very few parts in the box, most of the parts were pre-assembled into panels and the panels were fairly easy to put together. I think I added 2-3 wood screws to the roof, just because I felt like it would be a little more secure that way. I was pretty easily able to lift it and relocate it, this house seems lighter than the old plastic one of the same size that I pitched out to use this one. Also, the dog house had a fairly pervasive scent of red cedar, which will be nice for helping insects stay away.

So if you don't count epic droughts, mudslides and earthquakes, we don't really have "weather" here in Ca (according to my friends from Idaho) so I didn't think I was going to have a lot to worry about putting this in the backyard. However a few days after I completed construction, the roof of this doghouse got wet, and immediately buckled. Not terribly buckled, and it went away as soon as it dried up, but the roof panel is made of a thin tongue-and-groove cedar plank, glued to a veneer, glued to thin plywood, it looks like the planks swelled up and bubbled the veneer off the plywood?

Overall, it was about what I was expecting to get for a $100 doghouse, and seems like it will work just fine for what I want it for. I would recommend this with caveats,,, as long as you are looking for a low-price wooden doghouse, that looks kinda clean and nice too, I don't regret what I spent on this and would recommend it to others.

Arrived broken in due to a serious design flaw in the construction of the roof. Both roof sections were broken along the front edge where a line of wood staples weaken it and the wood eventually split in two. I used wood glue and screws to reconnect the broken off sections because I didn't want to bother exchanging it - any replacement would likely have the same problem. Was simply less work to fix it. It is also made of a very soft wood. You can crush it in your hand if you tried. Looks and smells like cedar but feels more like balsa wood.

I am the guy who had to put this together for my lovely bride.
I have also, finally, reached the point of no return..
How about…. Incorrect pieces, corner fittings that cracked under pressure stress, missing screws.
Instructions in picture form, not that I mind because I can' read Chinese anyway.

I had three choices after opening the box. 1 Jumping up and down on it, screaming at it and throwing it away. 2 Boxing it up and returning it (no way, dude.. where are all of the little plastic bags) 3. Lovingly assembling this magnificent edifice for our outdoor cat to probably inspect and ignore anyway because it smells like the inside of a tire store. I chose number three because I love my wife, really do like the cat ( a Hurricane Katrina survivor) and don't want to sleep on the couch and make my own dinner for the next month.

If it weren't for zip ties, Crazy Glue, a big hammer and American Ingenuity, non of this stuff would ever get put together.

I guess there comes a point when you take this "visionary equipment" out of the box, actually look at it and shake your head, envisioning someone laughing all the way to the bank while you really, really want to meet the guy who designed this thing, and determine that you have actually been in the wrong line of work your entire life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Summer shelter for a cat, July 12, 2015

We rescued a cat, and Noah is now living on the front porch. His winter house isn't comfortable for summer use, and I thought this would make a cooler shelter. It had a lot of parts, but went together quickly. For the first four days Noah was sleeping on top, using it like a hammock (not what it was designed for, but it held up). He finally got in and is now off the floor with shade. I don't know if it would work for a heavy dog, but it works for a big cat.

AQueen! A my Mutter Gov! I bought two of these weather proof dog house's, only to see them fall apart the second day! Then I had to reassemble them and buy some heavy duty Gorilla black tape and tape all the edges before my babies could sit or lay in them again! Now they're sturdy until I see otherwise! It took second's to put both dog house's together, for me! I found it very easy to assemble, but not without any Gorilla tape! AWOMEN! /- /-} *Monica*Raymondville, TX!
