Very cool training tool. Well built and nice paint and feel. The cord is "free" in the bird so the bird CAN move a little between the knots (unlike the dove). The throw knob is really nice.

Great product. My 8 week old Labrador loves retrieving this dummy during training sessions. Very durable too as she is still in the chew everything up stage and its STILL intact.

This is the only pool toy our Lab will play with; even though we have several others of various sizes, she won't touch them. The Chessy steals this one and hides it just to watch her search for it. She's pretty tough on it so the only comment would be that it could be better if the stuffing didn't come out so easily. Once she gets it to the point where it sinks, I get to be the retriever to get it off the bottom.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bird Psychology is Tough, September 11, 2013

Ms. Castro is to be commended for writing a tutorial that is both a pleasant read and thought provoking. The content is helpful particularly in the realm of attempting to meet the physical and psychological needs of the animal. Like most if not all of the other self proclaimed experts, her expertise is derived from her personal interpretation of bird behavior based on her years of personal experience with various parrots. Her advice is subjective and when she strays from the obvious, that most parrots are ill suited to live in captivity and people, even with the sincerest affection and desire to provide for their maintenance, are ill equipped to provide for their needs, beyond that her advice and conclusions may sometimes be suspect. For the most part the information is very helpful and should be a primer for those intent on purchasing a companion bird. It would be wonderful if first time owners possessed her insight prior to making the purchase. I particularly agreed with her statement that the bird did not ask to be brought into the owners home. Parrots in general are extremely intelligent and adaptable but once brought into a human household, they are in an alien environment. Much of the adaptive behavior which serves them well in the wild is destructive, disruptive, annoying and occasionally threatening to unprepared owners. As Ms. Castro opines, if you buy them, you have a *long* term obligation to provide for their physical care and psychological needs,(and their needs are quite extensive).

Ms. Castro's advice on the whole is very informative, she accurately points out that with birds punishment of any kind is counterproductive. In fact, much bird behavior appears counter intuitive until the owner understands the root of that behavior. It seems to me that the acceptance of the behavior on the owners part may be the first step in successful behavior avoidance. Some reviewers have criticized what they perceived as a lack of specific technique or steps to *make their bird quit biting*, those reviewers need to re-read earlier chapters, the insight is presented there but the information may not be sinking in.

Overall a valuable read particularly for novice owners and certain chapters should be a per-requisite for individuals considering the purchase of any parrot, particularly mid-sized or larger birds.

A very well-written easy to understand book- Highly recommended. The step-by-step detailed information that is presented in relation to solving challenging parrot behavior is exceptional. I do strongly recommend buying Clicker Training for Parrots and Other Birds Volume I and Volume II in conjunction with this book for a more thorough understanding. You will not be disappointed!
